HISTORY OF PUNJAB
Punjab is an ancient state of subcontinent and its history dates back to thirteenth century in the era of Ibn-e- Batuta. The word Punjab became more popular in the late fifteenth century when it was used in a book ‘taareekh-sher shah soori’. This book also mentions construction of a fort at that time. The word was again used by Abu Fazal in Ain-e-Akbari and it divided the Punjab into two areas Lahore and Multan. It was also known as Punjnad. The word was used by the great Mughal king Jehangir in his book Tazk-e-Jehangiri.
The word Punjab is a Persian word which literally means the land of five rivers because five rivers ran through this region which now includes Indian and Pakistani Punjab. Three rivers are in Pakistan and two in India which ultimately run into Pakistan.
Punjab is the original home of different communities including Od, Gypsy, Sadhu, Khatri, Sikh, Budha, Muslims. Punjab has gathered the blood and brain of many countries across the world including Persia, china, Greece and India.

KUSHAN EMPIRE:
Founded by king heraios and expanded by Kadphises.
INDOPARTHIAN KINGDOM:
This is a group of kings from central Asia who ruled Pakistan, india and Afghanistan. They used to live in Taxilla which is a district of Pakistan now.
INDUS CIVILIZATION:
This civilization evolved around the Indus river and there remnants can be found in Harappa city of Pakistan.
VEDIC ERA:
It evolved as Aryan culture which is very sacred to Hindu community.
A worth mentioning event of this era is the battle of ten kings which was fought on the bank of river Ravi.
GUPTAS’ ERA:
It spans around three hundred years between 300 to 600 CE. It covered much of Indian Punjab. It is manifested by beautiful art and culture.
HUNAS:
They evolved in the Punjab in fifth century.

                                                                   SIKH CULTURE

OTHER DYNASTIES:

Buddhists, paninian, empire of harsha vardhana, achaemanid empire, maurya empire, Greek kingdom, skythians empire, alexander’s invasion and then Mughal and Sikh empires before 1857 when freedom fight took place. After this fight Englishmen took over the Punjab until 1947.
PUNJAB AFTER INDEPENDENCE:
On 14th August, 1947 British India was divided into two states on the basis of religious prevalence. Pakistan came into being and Punjab was divided into Indian and Pakistani Punjab. Recent Punjab of Pakistan is the largest province of country when it comes to population. Lahore is the provincial capital and is known as heart of Punjab. There are thirty four districts and eight division of Punjab. The largest division is Lahore. Lahore is an old city with all its cultural beauty hidden in it. There are famous places to visit like Lahore zoo, Lahore fort, Badshahi Mosque, Fortress stadium, Mall Road, Shalamar Gardens, Ravi River and Minar-e-Pakistan. There are many educational institutes in Lahore naming King Edward Medical University, University of Engineering and Technology, University of Health Sciences, Government College Lahore, Punjab University, National College of Arts and Fatima Jinnah Medical College.
Lahore High Court is the largest high court among all provinces. Lahore is a city of living people. They are social, brave and hardworking. Butts, Chathas, Cheemas, Chohans and Khawajas are the well known families residing in Lahore.
